About

Shaping a Stronger Madison Together

I was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, as the son of a US Army servicemember. Growing up, we lived on numerous military posts, including returning to Germany for my middle school years. After my father retired from the Army, our family settled near Andalusia, Alabama, where I met my wonderful wife, Susan (Marley).

I graduated from Straughn High School and began my college education at Trevecca Nazarene College before earning my degree in History with a minor in Military Science from the University of South Alabama. Alongside my major, I completed extensive coursework in Political Science and Russian Language. After graduation, my family and I relocated to the Washington, DC area, where I worked as a civilian employee for the federal government.

After leaving civil service, I have been employed providing technical assistance for systems engineering and acquisition management to government agencies.

Susan and I originally came to Huntsville in 1987 while I was serving in the Alabama Army National Guard and attended Munitions Materiel Management training on Redstone Arsenal.

We have four daughters and eleven grandchildren.

We previously lived in Virginia and Florida before returning to the Madison/Huntsville area in 2007, becoming residents of Madison in 2016. I have served on the Historical Preservation Society and the Madison Police Advisory Committee. I am also a Certified Lay Servant and Minister in the Global Methodist Church, and we attend Madison Methodist Church in downtown Madison.

I am an avid reader and college sports fan. I enjoy woodworking and visiting historic locations. We have three rescue dogs and I have been very active in Dachshund rescue, serving previously on the board of a rescue and as the webmaster for a rescue that serves the eastern United States.

Two of my priorities are effective management of growth in Madison.  The “no growth” position is harmful to our efforts to attract businesses to Madison.  We also have a large number of areas (such as the Madison Boulevard corridor from Zierdt to Production Avenue that are underperforming on their revenue potential.  The revitalization of those areas would both make Madison more attractive and provide revenue streams for both investors/business owners and the city.
